All you need to know about student visa in Romania.
After getting the acceptance letter from the Ministry of Education, your next step is obtaining the student visa from the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania in your country.
Students from the EU countries, the EEA, as well as from Canada, Japan, Moldova, South Korea, USA, and Serbia do not need a visa to enter Romania.
Why do you need a student visa?
All Non-European citizens are required to apply for a student visa before their arrival. A student visa is issued for a period of 90 days within which the student has to finish the registration process at the university and apply for the student residence permit.
What documents do I need for obtaining a student visa?
Here is the list with all the required documents
- Criminal record certificate or another document of the same value
- Letter of acceptance from the Romanian Ministry of Education
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee (for the whole year)
- Proof of financial resources (account balance with approx. 2500 euros)
- Proof of the accommodation
- Proof of knowing the language of study (language certificate)
- Medical insurance
- Personal photo
- Passport (valid for at least 12 months)
Visa Application Fee is 120 euro and must be paid in the state where you apply.

The first step after having prepared all the documents mentioned above is to apply online at the following link: http://eviza.mae.ro/
Once you are done you will receive a validation email followed by the appointment to the Romanian Embassy/ Consulate. Before you arrive there you must make sure all your documents
As an internal procedure, the student visa is approved by the National Visa Center only after obtaining the favorable opinion of the General Inspectorate for Immigration. The favorable opinion is issued within 30 days of receiving the request. Meaning that the study visa is generally issued within 30 days after the application is submitted.
The long-stay visa is granted for a period of 90 days, with more entries.
Do not worry, while the list of documents might be too long… many of the documents are likely to be at hand due to the preparation of the overall studies admission file.
Please note that many of the documents will also be helpful in applying for your residence permit.
Once you obtained your study visa, you can plan your trip to Romania. Take into consideration that to get through passport control at the arrival you will need to provide some documents like a copy of the letter of acceptance, minimum 2500 USA dollars with you or another way of showing that you have sufficient funds for subsistence and of course the passport with the valid visa.
